The Most Sustainable Super Bowl Yet
I'm a little bit behind in my posting and newsletter schedule, but I was waiting for THE BIG DAY, also known as "The Taylor Swift Super Bowl."
I'm so fascinated by her impact on the NFL. Regardless of whether you're a Swiftie or not, it's pretty remarkable that one woman has significantly increased the value and viewership of this sport and brand.
This means that today, more eyes THAN EVER will be on the commercials, and as a self-professed marketing nerd—the ads are what I live for.
A few weeks ago I interviewed marketing expert Sandra Nomoto and we briefly discussed the history of vegan commercials during the Super Bowl. TLDR: There's only been two vegan companies that have ever advertised (this is Super Bowl 58, BTW).
As of right now, just a few hours before the big game, it looks like we'll have two vegan-related ads: One for PETA starring actress Edie Falco (watch here) and one starring actor Jeremy Renner for Silk plant-based milks (learn more here).
Hey, two is better than nothing! And during the same game? Progress!
Another interesting fact about today's game? According to USA Today, it's the first Super Bowl fully powered by renewable energy.
This is a quote direct from the article:
More than 621,000 solar panels found in a barren area of the Nevada desert help power the Allegiant Stadium, home to the Las Vegas Raiders and host of Super Bowl LVIII, reports several media outlets.
Whatever your plans are for the day, enjoy, dance, cheer, and of course, eat MORE plants!
